Diamonds: Selected Information

KT

Somewhere north of Shanghai there's a Chinese family wearing Doc Martens. Somewhere in Northamptonshire there's a Rushden & Diamonds fan wishing he could afford to. Open-toed sandals offer scant protection on the mean streets of Irthlingborough. Confucius might have struggled to capture the injustice of it all. "Shafted" doesn't easily translate into Mandarin. Pity the poor Rushdenite. Once he had a job at the shoe factory, a lifetime's supply of sensible footwear and a club who were going places. Now he's on the dole. He peers over the fence as Rushden & Diamonds slither back whence they came. At least Saturday's derby against Northampton town reminded him that for a brief moment in the constellation of Northamptonshire football, it was Diamonds who shone brightest. With a runaway goal in the last minute of stoppage time, they beat Northampton Town 3-2 to suggest that a total eclipse may still be avoidable.
